Edit a published HTML or Markdown artifact in your browser to save a new version at its existing URL.
Open the editor
- Open the artifact's current published page and select Edit in its header. On a narrow screen, open More to find Edit.
- Make your changes in Visual or Source.
- Select Save changes. The updated artifact opens at the same URL.
Edit appears only when you can read the full source and update the artifact. It is available for current, single-file HTML and Markdown artifacts. If you are viewing an earlier version, open the current version first.
Choose Visual or Source
Visual lets you make supported changes in a preview. Source shows the complete HTML or Markdown file. Both modes use the same unsaved changes, so you can switch between them without creating a version. For HTML, Visual does not run scripts or interactive controls from the artifact. Use Source for changes that Visual cannot make.
For Markdown, the toolbar includes headings, bold, italic, links, lists, and insert options. Use Command-B or Control-B for bold, Command-I or Control-I for italic, Command-E or Control-E for inline code, and Command-K or Control-K for a link. Command-S or Control-S saves changes. The toolbar shows shortcuts for other commands.
Markdown Visual displays supported images embedded in the file. Remote and relative image URLs appear as placeholders without fetching them. Open Source to inspect their exact Markdown. HTML Visual also avoids loading external resources from the page while you edit.
Save or recover your changes
Saving creates the next version of the same artifact. If another update was published first, the editor keeps your unsaved source and asks you to review the current version. It does not merge the two versions automatically.
If saving fails, keep the tab open and retry when the issue is resolved. You can select Download source to keep a copy of your changes. If your sign-in has expired, sign in in another tab and retry in the editor. Closing or reloading the tab discards unsaved changes.
To start a new artifact instead, use Publish from your browser.
