The short answer
A Project is a set of files, instructions, and chats for one assistant. Sharing a Project gives other people the same context, so they can ask their own questions.
That is useful when your team works with the same assistant every day. It is less useful when one person did the work and other people must read the result. Those readers need a document, not a context.
| Your goal | Use |
|---|---|
| Colleagues ask the same assistant about the same files | A shared Project |
| Colleagues read, comment on, and approve one result | A published document at a link |
| Readers use different assistants, or none | A published document at a link |
Claude Projects: who can share and what teammates see
Plans. Anthropic's pricing page lists "Project sharing and collaboration" on Team and Enterprise only. Free, Pro, and Max have Projects but cannot share them. Free accounts can have up to five Projects.
Who you can add. You add people from your organization by name or email address. You can also make a Project visible to the whole organization. On Enterprise, you can share with a group, as a beta feature. Anthropic's help page describes no public link for a Project.
Roles. People get one of two levels:
- Can view – they see the knowledge and instructions, and they chat in the Project. They cannot change it.
- Can edit – they change instructions and knowledge, and they manage members.
Chats stay private. Anthropic says chats inside a Project are not shared by default, even in a Project that the whole organization can see. You can share one chat by link. The link shows the messages that existed when you shared it.
Cost. Each reader needs a seat in your Claude organization. A Team Standard seat costs $20 a month with annual billing, or $25 a month with monthly billing.
ChatGPT Projects: who can share and what teammates see
Plans. OpenAI's help page lists Project sharing on Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu. It works on the web and in the mobile apps.
Who you can add. You invite people one at a time. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu you can also invite a group or share a link with your whole ChatGPT workspace. The owner can set a Project to "Anyone with a link". Then any signed-in ChatGPT user with the link can join. In a managed workspace, invitations may be limited to members of that workspace.
Roles. People get one of two levels:
- Chat access – they see and use the Project's chats, files, and instructions. They cannot invite others.
- Edit access – they also change instructions, add or remove files, and invite others. They cannot remove members.
Chats are visible. Members see the Project's chats, files, and member list. Each chat shows who started it. Members can branch a chat, but two people cannot work in the same chat at the same time.
Limits. The owner's plan sets the number of collaborators:
| Owner's plan | Collaborators | Files per Project |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 | 5 |
| Go and Plus | 10 | 25 |
| Pro | 100 | 40 |
| Business, Enterprise, Edu | 100 | 40 |
Shared Projects use project-only memory. They cannot read a member's memories from outside the Project.

The last row matters for review. A Project shares a chat. A reviewer cannot put a comment next to the sentence that is wrong.
Share the Project or share the output?
Use one rule. Share the Project when people must keep working with the assistant. Share the output when people must read the result.
A shared Project suits a team that writes weekly reports from the same data with the same instructions. Everybody asks, and the assistant answers in the same context.
A published output suits a single deliverable: a research report, a spec, a pricing plan, or a prototype. The reader opens one link. The reader does not see the chat, the prompts, or the files behind it. That is usually what the reader wants.
There is also a cost reason. A shared Claude Project needs a seat for every reader. Ten readers on Claude Team Standard cost $200 a month with annual billing. Display Pro costs €49 a month for the organization, with unlimited viewers.
Mixed teams: Claude users, ChatGPT users, and people with neither
Most companies do not use one assistant. Engineering may use Claude Code. Marketing may use ChatGPT. Finance may use neither.
A Project cannot cross that line. A Claude Project opens only in Claude. A ChatGPT Project opens only in ChatGPT. Claude Docs follows the same rule. Anthropic's help page says that opening a shared Claude Doc requires a Claude account. On Team and Enterprise, a Doc cannot leave your organization.
A published document removes the vendor from the reading step. Display is the docs workspace for agents and people. Any agent publishes docs and files to a link. Your team opens the link with the account they already use. They comment and edit in-line. Any agent or teammate can publish the next version to the same link.
What the reader needs on Display:
- Company access. People in your organization sign in with Google or Microsoft on the Pro plan. On every plan, a one-time password sent to their email address also works.
- Private access with an invitation. You invite a person by email address. A person outside your organization enters the one-time password sent to that address. They do not create an account.
- Public access. Anyone with the link can open it. An Owner can turn off Public artifacts for the whole organization.
One limit applies today. Invited people outside your organization can view an artifact but cannot comment yet. Members of your organization can comment.
How to publish a Project's output from Claude or ChatGPT
Connect Display to the assistant once. Then ask the assistant to publish the result.
From Claude. Display is in Claude's connector directory. Open the Display listing, select Connect, and authorize your Display organization. On Team or Enterprise, an Owner adds Display for the organization first. The steps are in the Claude Desktop guide. For long tasks in Claude, use the Claude Cowork guide.
From ChatGPT. You add Display as a custom app. Publishing needs MCP write actions. OpenAI allows them on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu, on the web, with developer mode turned on. ChatGPT Pro custom apps can only read, so they cannot publish. The steps are in the ChatGPT guide.
Then ask in the Project chat:
Publish this report to Display as Markdown. Set access to Company. Return the link.To send the next version to the same link, ask:
Update the Display artifact you published earlier with this new version. Keep the same link.If your plan cannot connect Display, download the file from the chat. Then ask a coding agent such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude Code to publish it. You can also upload it in the dashboard.

FAQ
Can I share a Claude Project with my team?
Yes, on the Team and Enterprise plans. You add members of your Claude organization by name or email, or you make the Project visible to the whole organization. Free, Pro, and Max cannot share Projects.
Can I share a Claude Project with someone outside my organization?
Anthropic's help page describes sharing only with people in your organization. It describes no public link for a Project. To give the result to an outside person, publish the output and invite them by email.
Can I share a ChatGPT Project with my team?
Yes, on every plan. You invite people, share a workspace link on Business, Enterprise, or Edu, or set the Project to "Anyone with a link". Each person must sign in to ChatGPT.
Do people in a shared Project see my chats?
In ChatGPT, yes. Members see the Project's chats and files. In Claude, no. Chats stay private unless you share each one.
How many people can join a shared ChatGPT Project?
It depends on the owner's plan: 5 on Free, 10 on Go and Plus, and 100 on Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu.
Can reviewers comment on a paragraph in a shared Project?
No. A Project shares chats and files. For comments on a specific passage, publish the output to a document tool. On Display, members of your organization select text and comment.
What is the cheapest way to show one AI result to ten colleagues?
Publish the result instead of buying ten assistant seats. Display has unlimited viewers on every plan. Pro costs €49 a month for the organization and adds Google and Microsoft sign-in.
Free tier. No credit card. One-time password auth for viewers on free, Google + Microsoft SSO on Pro (€49/month flat).
