Notion AI vs Claude Cowork: Which One Should Your Team Use?

Display is our product. We do not sell either tool. We checked both vendors' pricing pages and help pages on 16 October 2026.

TL;DR
Notion AI works inside Notion. Its agent writes and edits pages and databases that your team already shares. Pick it when the Notion page is the deliverable and everyone has a Notion seat. Claude Cowork works across files on your computer, the web, and your connected apps. It returns finished files, docs, and decks. Pick it when the work needs files, a browser, or long tasks. If the result must reach people who use neither tool, publish Claude's output to a link that they can open and comment on.

The short answer

The two products start from different places.

Notion AI starts from the document. Your team's pages, wikis, and databases are already in Notion. The Notion Agent reads them, writes new pages, fills database properties, and answers questions across connected apps. The output is a Notion page, with Notion's sharing and permissions.

Claude Cowork starts from the task. You describe an outcome. Claude reads your files, searches the web, runs code, and returns finished files: Word documents, spreadsheets with formulas, PowerPoint decks, or HTML pages. The output stays with the person who ran the task until that person shares it.

On 16 September 2026, Anthropic announced that Cowork and chat merge into one Claude. Its help page says "everything Claude Cowork does is available from any conversation". The rollout is gradual. Your account may still show separate "Chat" and "Cowork" options. This post uses the name Cowork because people still search for it.

Prices for a 10-person team

List prices as the vendors showed them to us, per person per month, before tax. Notion showed euros. Anthropic showed US dollars.

PlanAnnual billingMonthly billing10 people, annual billing
Notion Plus (Notion AI trial only)€9.50€11.50€95
Notion Business (Notion Agent)€19.50€23.50€195
Claude Pro (one person)$17$20Not for teams
Claude Team, Standard seat$20$25$200

Two notes on these numbers. Notion Custom Agents cost extra: Notion lists $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. Claude Team is for 2 to 150 people. It adds central billing, single sign-on, and admin controls for connectors.

Both prices count every person who uses the AI. Neither price counts readers who only need to see the result. That gap is where most teams overpay.

When Notion AI is the better choice

  • Your team already writes in Notion. The Notion Agent works on the pages and databases where the work lives. Nothing moves to another tool.
  • The deliverable is a Notion page. A meeting summary, a project brief, or a database of feedback stays in Notion with its permissions.
  • You want answers across company apps. Notion's Enterprise Search, in beta, searches Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, and more from Notion.
  • You need meeting notes. AI Meeting Notes is on the Business plan.
  • You want one bill for documents and AI. The Business plan includes both.

The limit is the edge of Notion. The agent works on what is in Notion and in the apps you connect. It does not work on files on your computer. Its output is a Notion page, so readers need access to your Notion pages.

When Claude Cowork is the better choice

  • The work needs files. In Claude Desktop, Claude reads, organizes, and creates files in folders you allow.
  • The output is a file. Claude returns Word documents, spreadsheets with working formulas, and decks you open in PowerPoint.
  • The task is long. Tasks keep running in Anthropic's cloud when you close your laptop. Tasks that use local files need Claude Desktop open.
  • The work repeats. Claude runs scheduled tasks, for example a Monday summary of your inbox.
  • The work needs a browser. Claude can open sites, read pages, click, and fill in forms.

The limit is the edge of one person's conversation. A result stays in that conversation until the person downloads it, sends it, or shares it.

Where each tool's output goes

Notion AI output is a Notion page. You share it with members and guests. Notion's Free plan allows 10 external guests. Paid plans allow unlimited guests. You can also publish a page to the web on a notion.site address. Page history lasts 7 days on Free, 30 days on Plus, and 90 days on Business.

Claude Cowork output goes to one of three places:

OutputWhere it livesWho can open it
A .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx fileThe conversation, then your disk when you download itWhoever you send the file to
A Claude Doc or another shared Claude artifactYour Claude account, shared by linkOpening it needs a Claude account. On Team and Enterprise, it cannot leave your organization.
An HTML page or a Markdown fileThe conversation, or a folder on your computerNobody, until you put it somewhere

The last row is the common problem. Claude writes a good HTML report or a Markdown spec, and then nobody else can open it. For more detail on each row, read what Claude Cowork is and where its output goes.

How to share Claude Cowork output with the team

Display is the docs workspace for agents and people. Any agent publishes docs and files to a link. Your team opens the link with the account they already use. They comment and edit in-line. Any agent or teammate can publish the next version to the same link.

  1. Add Display from Claude's connector directory. On Team or Enterprise, an Owner adds it for the organization first. The steps are in the Claude Cowork guide.
  2. In the task, ask Claude to publish the report:
Publish this report to Display as HTML. Set access to Company. Return the link.
  1. Colleagues open the link. On the Pro plan, they sign in with Google or Microsoft. On every plan, a one-time password sent to their email address also works. They do not need a Claude seat or a Notion seat.
  2. Colleagues select text and comment. Ask Claude to read the comments and publish the next version at the same link.

Three limits apply. On a personal Claude Pro or Max account, Claude publishes small pages through the connector. A large existing file needs a Team or Enterprise organization that allows api.display.dev for code execution. Invited people outside your organization can view a Display artifact but cannot comment yet. Display does not run Claude or Notion. It holds what you publish.

Display Pro costs €49 a month for the organization, with unlimited viewers. The Free plan has 3 gated artifacts.

Can you use both?

Yes, and many teams will. Notion stays the place where people write and track work. Claude does the long tasks that need files and a browser. The question is where the result of a Claude task goes.

If the result belongs in Notion, paste or rewrite it there. If it is an HTML report, a prototype, or a spec that people must review, a Notion page may lose the layout. For that case, read how Notion's HTML block behaves and our list of Notion alternatives.

FAQ

What is the difference between Notion AI and Claude Cowork?+

Is Claude Cowork still a separate product?+

Which is cheaper for a 10-person team?+

At annual billing, Claude Team Standard costs $200 a month for 10 seats. Notion Business costs €195 a month for 10 members. Notion Custom Agents need credits on top.
