What a live artifact is
Anthropic uses "live artifacts" for artifacts made in Claude Cowork before 19 August 2026. They stay in your Artifacts view with a Cowork label. You can open them and share them. You cannot edit them in place. When someone opens one, it gets data from that person's connected apps.
Organizations with customer-managed keys, zero data retention or a HIPAA-ready setup continue to use live artifacts.
How sharing works
| Artifact | Who can open it |
|---|---|
| Live artifact made before 19 August 2026 | Anyone in your organization who has the link. No external or public link, and no choice of single recipients |
| Cowork artifact made on or after 19 August 2026 | The normal artifact rules. Read How to share a Claude artifact privately |
| A Claude Code page that calls connectors | Members of your organization. A viewer who is signed out or outside the organization sees the page without its live sections |
Anthropic's pages do not agree on public links for artifacts that use connectors. The Help Center says that these artifacts cannot use "Anyone with the link". The Claude Code documentation describes a public link for them. Check the share dialog in your account.
Other rules from Anthropic:
- A live artifact runs on the connectors and data sources of the viewer, not on yours. If the viewer has no access to a source, that section shows an error.
- To change a live artifact, open it, select Share, and publish it again as a new artifact. People with the existing link see the new version. After that, you can edit it like any other artifact.
- You cannot share Cowork sessions. You can share individual artifacts.
- Open shared artifacts only from people you trust. Anthropic compares them to a file from an unknown sender.
Share a snapshot with people outside Claude
A page on Display is a static file. It cannot call your Claude connectors. Ask Claude to freeze the data first.
Make a static version of this live artifact with today's data in the page and a note
that says "Snapshot of 16 October". Publish it to Display as a Company page and give
me the link.Colleagues then sign in with their company email. They need no Claude seat. For a new snapshot, tell Claude: "Update the page at the same link." The link stays the same, and paid plans keep earlier versions. For a large file from Cowork, read Claude Cowork for staged uploads.
When to keep it live
Keep the artifact in Claude when all readers have seats and need current data. A Display page shows only the data that it contains.
FAQ
Can I share a live artifact outside my organization?
Not with a link. Anthropic describes no external or public sharing for live artifacts.
Are live artifacts the same as Claude Code artifacts?
No. Live artifacts came from Cowork. Claude Code artifacts are pages that Claude Code publishes to claude.ai. Read What is a Claude artifact?.
Do live artifacts still work?
Yes. They continue to work, and you can share them inside the organization.
Will the data stay current on Display?
No. Ask Claude to publish a new snapshot to the same link when the data changes.
