How to Share a Gemini Canvas Privately

Display is our product. We checked the Google facts against the Gemini Help Center and the Google Workspace Updates blog on 16 October 2026.

TL;DR
The Gemini public link has no password and no invitation list. Anyone with the URL can open it. Deleting the link stops new visits, but it cannot recall copies that people already made. Google Workspace accounts have a second route: share a snapshot through the Google Drive share menu, under your organization's Drive policies. For text, you can also export to Google Docs. For an interactive Canvas that people outside Google must open, ask Gemini for the complete self-contained HTML and publish that file. Display (display.dev), the docs workspace for agents and people, publishes it as private or company-only, and updates keep the same link.

Google's help page says to open the chat and select Share & export at the top right of the Canvas panel. Then select Share and copy the g.co/gemini/share link. For an app, Gemini first shows the app information. Four facts from Google's pages are important for privacy:

  • Anyone with the link can read it. They can also share it again.
  • The link is a snapshot. The page shows the chat as it was when you created the link. Later edits do not change it.
  • The shared page includes the whole chat. That includes Canvas documents, images and videos.
  • Apps share their data. Anyone with the public link to an app can view and edit data associated with the app. Google shows this warning before you share an app.

Shared links open only on gemini.google.com, not in the Gemini mobile app. Recipients can select Copy Canvas to make their own copy.

Share through Google Drive on Workspace

Since June 2026, Google Workspace accounts can share chats and canvases through Google Drive. You get the normal Drive share menu, so you can share with specific people in your organization. The shared item is a snapshot. It works on the web. Your organization's Drive policies apply. Google announced it on the Workspace Updates blog. The Gemini help pages above still describe only the public link.

This route needs a Google account for each reader. A client without access to your Drive cannot open it.

Go to gemini.google.com, open Settings & help, then Your public links. Delete one link or all links. A person who opens a deleted link sees that the chat no longer exists. Deleting the link does not delete copies that people made when they continued the shared chat. It also does not delete posts on other sites. A Workspace administrator can turn conversation sharing on or off.

Export steps

Pick the route that matches what you built.

  1. A document (text). In the Canvas panel, select Share & export, then Export to Docs. The result is a normal Google Doc. Share it with your colleagues through Google Docs sharing.
  2. Slides. Select Export to Slides. You can also save the slides as a PDF. A PDF is a file that you send. You cannot update it at the same link.
  3. An interactive page (HTML). Ask Gemini to output the complete, self-contained HTML for this Canvas in one code block, with CSS and JavaScript inline. Copy the answer into a file named report.html. Google's Canvas help page does not list an HTML export, so this step uses the answer from Gemini. Open the file in your browser. Check that it works without Gemini before you share it.
  4. Python code. Select Export to Colab.

Publish the HTML privately with Display

Give the file to your agent and ask it to publish report.html to Display for your company. For one outside reader, ask it to publish the file as Private and to share it with client@example.com. You can also upload the file in the dashboard.

Colleagues open a company artifact with a one-time password, or on Pro with Google or Microsoft. The invited client enters a one-time password and creates no account. To publish an update, tell the agent: "Update the page at the same link." The link stays the same.

Members of your organization can comment on the page and can select Edit to fix a line. People that you invite from outside your company can read the page but cannot comment yet. Gemini has no documented connector for Display, so you copy the HTML into a file yourself.

Display fits when the page is a document that several people review and an agent updates. Shareable has link expiry and view limits. Display does not have them today. Google Docs is better when the content is text and people edit it together.

Limits

  • Display hosts the page as a file. A Canvas that calls Gemini or a backend does not work outside Gemini. Test the exported file first.
  • Display publishes one HTML or Markdown file. Publishing a folder or a ZIP file is on the roadmap.
  • Display has no link expiry or view limit. You can change the audience or delete the artifact.
  • Free allows 3 gated artifacts. Viewers are unlimited on every plan.
