How to Get Review Comments on an HTML Prototype

Display is our product. An artifact is one HTML or Markdown file that Display publishes at its own URL. We checked the vendor facts on each vendor's own pages on 16 October 2026.

TL;DR
Publish the prototype at a link that reviewers open in a browser. Collect the comments on the page itself, not in email or Slack. A comment on the exact text keeps its context, and your agent can act on it. With Display (display.dev), the docs workspace for agents and people, your teammates select text and comment. The agent that built the prototype reads the open discussions and makes the changes. It replies, resolves the discussions and publishes the next version at the same URL. You can invite clients by email. They open the prototype with a one-time password and can view it. Comments from outside guests are on the roadmap. Until then, collect client feedback in a call or a message.

Pick by prototype type

Your prototypeFits Display?
One self-contained HTML file with inline CSS and scriptsYes
A Markdown specification or flow descriptionYes
A running app with a backend, a database or sign-inNo. Use a preview host such as Vercel
A design file with layers and componentsNo. Review it in Figma
A folder with many HTML, CSS and image filesNot yet. Display takes one file for each artifact. Directory publishing is on the roadmap. Bundle the prototype into one file

The review loop in five steps

1. Publish the prototype to your organization.

Tell your agent: "Publish prototype.html to Display as 'Checkout prototype' for my company." Colleagues open a company page after they sign in. If you do not say who can open it, a page that you publish is private.

2. Send the link and say what to review. Use the checklist in the next section.

3. Reviewers comment on the text. A reviewer opens the link, selects text, selects Comment, writes a note and selects Post. A selection can hold up to 1,024 characters. For a larger section, select a heading and describe the change in the comment.

4. The agent works through the discussions. Paste this prompt from Review comments into the agent that built the prototype:

Find the Display.dev artifact named Checkout prototype. Review its open discussions,
make the requested changes when they are clear, reply with what changed, and resolve
only the discussions you addressed. Return the updated link and list anything that
still needs my decision.

The agent lists the open discussions, edits the prototype, replies to each discussion and resolves the ones it addressed. The agent's steps are in How to get an AI agent to read review comments.

5. Reviewers see the new version at the same URL. The link does not change. Open tabs show a Refresh to vN action. A reviewer can open the version where a discussion started with Open that version.

What to ask reviewers

A comment is easier to act on when it has five parts. Put this list at the top of the prototype or in the message with the link:

  • Location. Which screen or which sentence?
  • Action. What must change?
  • Expected and actual. What did you expect, and what did you see?
  • Device. Phone or laptop, and which browser?
  • Priority. Must fix, should fix or nice to have?

Select the exact text for the location. The comment stays attached to it.

When another tool is better

  • A running app. Use Vercel preview comments. They work on a running preview.
  • A design in layers. Use Figma.
  • You need visual markup on a screenshot. A screenshot tool or a design file fits better than text comments.

Limits

  • Guests can view only. Invite a client by email, and the client opens the prototype with a one-time password. The client cannot comment yet. On Pro and Enterprise, an Owner can restrict outside sharing for the whole organization.
  • One file for each artifact. Put your CSS, scripts and images inside the file, or use data URLs.
  • Display serves static files. It does not run a server.
  • The upload size is 10 MB for each artifact on Free and 50 MB on Solo, Pro and Enterprise. Read Plans and limits.
  • Free allows 3 gated artifacts. Public artifacts are unlimited.

FAQ

Can a client comment on the prototype?+

Not yet. Invited people outside your organization can view. Ask the client for feedback in a call or a message. A teammate then posts it as a comment, so the agent can act on it.

Can reviewers see the comments of other reviewers?+

Yes. Open the discussions panel with the speech-bubble icon. Use Open and Resolved to switch between active and finished discussions.

Does the agent resolve a discussion by itself?+

Only the discussions it addressed, and only if the prompt tells it to. Anything that needs a human decision stays open.

What if I fix a typo myself?+

Anyone who can edit the artifact can fix a line in the page in the browser. Read Edit an artifact in your browser.

Do comments stay when the agent publishes a new version?+

Yes. Each discussion records the passage and the version where it started.

Which agents work?+

Cursor, Codex, Claude Code and any other agent that connects to Display.
