TL;DR
Pick Netlify Drop if you have no account and want a URL now. Pick Vercel Drop if you have a Vercel account and want the site in a Vercel project. Pick Cloudflare Drop if you want a 60-minute preview and a path to a Cloudflare account. All three take a folder or a zip and give you a site. Private sharing is not their main job. Netlify protects an unclaimed drop with a temporary password. Vercel and Cloudflare publish a public URL. For one HTML or Markdown file that only chosen people may open, Display (display.dev) is a different kind of tool. Display is the docs workspace for agents and people.

Netlify Drop

Go to app.netlify.com/drop and drag a project folder or a zip file onto the drop zone. The site goes live at a netlify.app address. Netlify says that when you are not logged in, it publishes the files as they are. When you are logged in, it detects your framework and runs the build.

Unclaimed sites. The Netlify Drop quickstart says that a site dropped without a login has a temporary password until you claim it. The quickstart gives no deadline. Netlify's blog says that Netlify cut the claim window "from 24 hours to one" in 2022. It also says that since early 2025, Netlify suspends unclaimed sites and deletes them a week later. A Vercel guide says that Netlify deletes unclaimed sites within an hour. The sources do not agree, so claim the site immediately.

After you claim it. On credit-based plans, the project stays private if your team has the private default on. On legacy plans, the project is public unless you add Password Protection or authentication. A shared password needs Pro. Read our guide to protecting a Netlify site.

Vercel Drop

Go to vercel.com/drop and drop a file, a folder or a .zip. Choose your team, name the project and select Deploy. Vercel creates a new project and publishes it to production. It builds framework projects and serves static files as they are.

Limits. You need a Vercel account. The project has no Git connection, so a push does not deploy. To update the project, drop a folder onto it in the dashboard.

Protection. Vercel turns on Deployment Protection for new projects. Its recommended scope, Standard Protection, does not protect production domains, and a drop publishes to production. Open Deployment Protection after a drop and choose All Deployments if production must be private. Vercel Authentication is on every plan. Password Protection costs $20 a month for each project on Pro. Read our page on protecting a Vercel site.

Cloudflare Drop

Go to cloudflare.com/drop and upload a folder or a .zip of static files: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts. One .html file also works and becomes the home page. You get a preview at a workers.dev address and a claim URL. Claim the deployment within 60 minutes, or Cloudflare deletes the temporary account and its files. To claim, sign in or create an account. Cloudflare checks the email address of each new account. The claim URL gives ownership of the site, so do not share it.

After you claim it. Cloudflare says that you can make the site private and choose who can view it with Cloudflare Access policies. Read Display compared with Cloudflare Access.

Where Display fits

A Drop tool answers the question "how do I put this folder on the web?" Display answers the question "who can open this file?"

  1. Ask your agent to publish the file to Display. Without an account, the agent gets a public preview URL for 30 days and a single-use claim URL. Anyone with the preview URL can open it.
  2. Open the claim URL and sign in. The artifact moves into your organization.
  3. Tell the agent: "Make this page Private and share it with alice@client.com."

Invited readers outside your company enter their email address and a one-time password (OTP). They need no account. Pro (€49 a month) adds Google and Microsoft sign-in for your company. Read Publish without an account for the details.

What Display does not do:

  • It serves one HTML or Markdown file for each artifact. Publishing a directory or a ZIP file is planned.
  • It does not build projects.
  • It has no shared password and no expiring links.
  • Outside guests can view an artifact. They cannot comment yet.
  • Custom domains are on Enterprise, by contract.

When another tool is better

  • You deploy a site with many files, a framework build or functions. Use a Drop tool or a full host.
  • You want a shared password. Use Netlify (Pro) or Vercel (Pro, $20 a month for each project).
  • You want a preview that goes away after an hour. Cloudflare Drop does that. A Display preview lasts 30 days.
  • Your content is a running application. Do not put an unprotected app on any of these tools or on Display.

Publish your first artifact in 15 seconds.

Free tier. No credit card. One-time password auth for viewers on free, Google + Microsoft SSO on Pro (€49/month flat).
