# ChatGPT output formatter

Paste a reply from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to read it as a formatted document. The tool removes citation marks and other copy problems. Then copy formatted text or get a link.

## How to use the ChatGPT output formatter

1. In ChatGPT, select the copy button under the reply. Then paste the reply into the source box. To see how the tool works, select Load an example.
2. Read the formatted reply in the preview. The line under the preview shows each copy problem that the tool fixed.
3. Select Copy formatted text to paste the reply into an email or a document with its formatting. Select Copy Markdown to keep the Markdown.
4. To send the reply as a page, select Get a link. Display publishes the Markdown and gives you a URL and a claim link.

### Get a link without the browser

Agents can publish the same file through the anonymous endpoint that the Get a link button uses. The response holds a preview URL, a single-use claim URL and the expiry date.

## Limits

- The tool reads and publishes up to 5 MB of Markdown. For files up to 50 MB, publish with the Display CLI.
- The tool removes ChatGPT citation marks, a code block around the whole reply, invisible characters and Copy code lines. It changes LaTeX math brackets to dollar signs and tab-separated rows to tables.
- The tool does not change code blocks. To see the reply as you pasted it, clear Fix copy problems.
- If you select the reply with the mouse and copy it, you get plain text. Headings, lists and code formatting are lost, and the tool cannot add them again. Use the copy button under the reply.
- Math, Mermaid diagrams, callouts and task lists show as text or code in the preview. Display draws them on the published page.
- Some browsers do not let a page copy formatted text. In that case, the button shows Copy failed. Use Copy Markdown.
- Get a link makes a public link. Anyone with the URL can open it for 30 days. Search engines do not index it.

## ChatGPT output formatter questions

**Q: Does the tool send my reply to Display?**

No. The tool cleans and formats the reply in your browser. Display receives the Markdown only when you select Get a link.

**Q: Does it work with replies from Claude and Gemini?**

Yes. Paste Markdown from any assistant. The citation fix finds ChatGPT citation marks only. The other fixes apply to all replies.

**Q: What does Copy formatted text do?**

It copies the reply two times, as formatted text and as Markdown. An email or a document editor pastes the formatted text. The tool copies HTML tags in the reply as text.

**Q: How long does the link work?**

30 days. Open the claim link and sign in to keep the reply in your Display organization. After you claim it, you can make it open only for people at your company.
