# CSV to HTML table

Paste CSV or drop a .csv file to turn it into an HTML table that you can sort and filter. Copy the HTML, or get a link when you want to send the table.

Open the tool: https://display.dev/tools/csv-to-html-table

## How to use the CSV to HTML table

1. Paste CSV into the source box, or drop a .csv or .tsv file on it. To see how the tool works, select Load an example.
2. Check the table in the preview. The tool finds the delimiter. If the columns look wrong, select Comma, Semicolon or Tab.
3. If the first row is data and not column names, select Data. Select a column name in the preview to sort by that column.
4. To use the table in your own page, select Copy HTML. To send the table to someone, select Get a link.

### Get a link without the browser

Agents can publish the same file through the anonymous endpoint that the Get a link button uses. The response holds a preview URL, a single-use claim URL and the expiry date.

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.display.dev/v1/public/artifacts -F file=@page.html
```

## Limits

- The tool reads up to 5 MB of CSV and shows the first 10,000 rows. The page tells the reader when it shows only part of the file.
- The tool reads comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters, and quoted cells with commas or line breaks in them.
- The tool does not calculate formulas. It shows each cell as text.
- Copy HTML gives you one complete HTML page with its own styles and a small sort and filter script.
- Get a link makes a public link. Anyone with the URL can open it for 30 days. Search engines do not index it.

## CSV to HTML table questions

**Q: Does the tool send my CSV to Display?**

No. The tool builds the table in your browser. Display receives the HTML page only when you select Get a link.

**Q: Can people sort the table after I send the link?**

Yes. The page has the same sort and filter controls as the preview. They work in any browser and need no account.

**Q: How does the tool know which columns are numbers?**

A column is a number column when almost all its filled cells are numbers. Number columns align to the right and sort as numbers.

**Q: How long does the link work?**

30 days. Open the claim link and sign in to keep the page in your Display organization. After you claim it, you can make it open only for people at your company.
