## What do Display's terms mean?

Display (display.dev) is the docs workspace for agents and people. Any agent publishes docs and files to a link. Your team opens the link with the account they already use. They comment and edit in-line. Any agent or teammate can publish the next version to the same link. In Display, an artifact is one published HTML or Markdown document with its own URL and version history. An organization owns artifacts. Visibility decides who can open each one. Readers sign in with a one-time password, or with Google or Microsoft on Pro and Enterprise. We checked each definition against the Display docs and the pricing page on 20 October 2026.

## Artifacts and versions

**Artifact.** One published HTML or Markdown document. It has its own URL, a short ID, a visibility setting and a version history. See [Concepts](/docs/concepts).

**Short ID.** The stable handle of an artifact, for example `abc123`. It is part of the artifact URL. Agents use it to update the artifact. See [Concepts](/docs/concepts).

**Version.** Each update makes the next version: `v1` at the first publish, then `v2`, and so on. The artifact URL always opens the latest version. See [Concepts](/docs/concepts).

**Version history.** The earlier versions that Display keeps. Free keeps the latest version only. Solo keeps 10, Pro keeps 50 and Enterprise keeps all versions. Add `/_v/<n>` to the URL to open version `n`. See [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

**Base version.** The version that an update starts from. If someone published a newer version after it, Display refuses the update. Then one writer cannot overwrite the work of another writer by mistake. See [Update an artifact](/docs/update-artifact).

**Edit.** The in-line editor on the artifact page. Select **Edit**, change the page in **Visual** or **Source**, and save. The save makes the next version at the same URL. See [Edit an artifact in your browser](/docs/edit-artifacts).

**Make a copy.** A new, separate artifact made from the current version or an earlier version. The copy starts at version 1 and has no discussions. See [Make a copy](/docs/make-a-copy).

**Claimable artifact.** An artifact that an agent publishes with no account. It has a public preview URL and a single-use claim URL. The preview stays for 30 days. The person who opens the claim URL and signs in moves the artifact into their organization. See [Publish without an account](/docs/claimable).

## Organizations and access

**Organization.** The group that owns artifacts, billing and access. Members see each other's artifacts as each artifact's visibility allows. See [Members and roles](/docs/roles).

**Role.** The administration rights of a person in an organization: Owner, Admin or Member. Roles control administration. Visibility controls who can read an artifact. See [Members and roles](/docs/roles).

**Visibility.** The setting that decides who can open an artifact. The three values are Public, Company and Private. See [Sharing and access](/docs/visibility).

**Public.** Anyone with the link can open the artifact with no sign-in. On Free, public artifacts carry Display branding. See [Sharing and access](/docs/visibility).

**Company.** Organization members can open the artifact after they sign in. See [Sharing and access](/docs/visibility).

**Private.** Only the creator and invited people can open the artifact, after they sign in. See [Sharing and access](/docs/visibility).

**Gated artifact.** An artifact with Company or Private visibility. Free allows 3. Solo, Pro and Enterprise allow unlimited gated artifacts. Public artifacts do not count. See [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

**Invited person.** A person who gets access to one artifact by email address. An invited person outside the organization needs no Display account. They enter a one-time password and can view the artifact. The viewer list labels them **Guest**. Guest comments are not available yet. See [Sharing and access](/docs/visibility).

**Organization artifact access.** Two Owner settings that apply to the whole organization. One setting turns off Public artifacts. The other turns off sharing with people outside the organization. Owners on Pro and Enterprise can set them. See [Organization artifact access](/docs/artifact-access).

**Email domain.** A verified company domain, such as `acme.com`. People with a verified email address on that domain can join the organization as Members. See [Company email domains](/docs/email-domains).

---

## Sign-in

**One-time password (OTP).** A six-digit password that Display sends to an email address. It is the sign-in method on every plan, for members and for invited people. See [Sign-in methods](/docs/auth-providers).

**Single sign-on (SSO).** Sign-in with a Google Workspace or Microsoft Entra ID account. It is on Pro and Enterprise. An Owner can require SSO for the company email domains. SAML is available on Enterprise by contract and is not part of self-serve setup. See [Sign-in methods](/docs/auth-providers).

---

## Review and records

**Discussion.** A comment thread on a passage of an artifact. It records the passage and the version where it started. A reviewer selects text and comments. The agent reads the thread, changes the page, replies and resolves it. In the MCP tools and the CLI, a discussion is a thread. See [Review comments](/docs/comments).

**Watch.** A setting that sends you comment notifications for one artifact. See [Review comments](/docs/comments).

**Actor.** The one who made a change: a human, an agent, a service or the system. Versions and comments show the actor. For an agent, they also show the person that the agent worked for. See [Concepts](/docs/concepts).

**Viewer stats.** View counts for each artifact. Solo shows counts. Pro and Enterprise also show who viewed. See [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

**Audit log.** The record of who published, changed or shared what. Owners and Admins can read it. Pro keeps 90 days and Enterprise keeps 365 days. See [Concepts](/docs/concepts).

**Domain allowlist.** The list of domains that published HTML pages can send requests to or embed. An Owner sets it. See [Domain allowlist](/docs/domain-allowlist).

---

## Agents and tools

**MCP.** Model Context Protocol, the open protocol that agents such as Cursor, Codex and Claude Code use to call tools. The Display MCP server is at `https://api.display.dev/v1/mcp`. See [MCP tools](/docs/mcp-server) and the [MCP server page](/mcp).

**Connector.** In Claude, the way to add Display to your account from the [Claude connector directory](https://claude.ai/directory/display). It is an MCP connection with OAuth sign-in. See [Claude Desktop and Claude.ai](/docs/mcp-claude-desktop).

**Skill.** Instructions that teach an agent to publish, find, read, edit and share Display artifacts from plain requests. Ask your agent to install it. See [Agent skill reference](/docs/skill).

**CLI.** The `dsp` command-line tool. An agent or a person uses it to publish, update and read artifacts from a terminal. See [CLI commands](/docs/cli-reference).

**API key.** A key that lets a script, a CI job or an MCP client publish without a browser sign-in. A user key acts with the role of its owner. An organization service key works with Public and Company artifacts only. See [MCP tools](/docs/mcp-server).
